The Audacity of Homophobia

Barack "Audacity of Hope" Obama is traveling across South Carolina with Donnie McClurkin (who struggles, poor dear, with gay tendencies and has vowed to battle "the curse of homosexuality") in his "Embrace the Change" tour. As Michael Berube pondered in the Comments section of the Americablog post alerting me to this tired cynical retread of "Southern Strategy" politics, it's hard indeed not to wonder: "[C]an Democrats who pander to homophobes be cured of their pandering, or is it genetic?"

Another reason I adore Michael Berube.

I'm so disappointed to hear this about Obama. I keep trying to have higher hopes for him, but he keeps letting me down with his religious pandering.

Not to mention the "all options on the table" nonsense from him. I don't understand the Dems when they try to out-macho the Repigs. It's like listening to the nerdy bullied kid in your high school talk about his expanding gun collection and subscription to Soldier of Fortune. You just know that nothing good can come of it.
